Before I went to Spain, I always think, for western food, there are no good things deserved to eat. Obviously this is a misunderstanding. It is may be because I ate so many chicken chops when I studied in university that I conclude western food is not good. When I go to Barcelona, I realize there are so many kinds of delicious foods in European countries, especially in north European countries.

If you want to know the local culture deeply, you must live your life as the local people do. For those foreign people living in Spain, the first thing need to do is adapting to the time of work and rest. Spanish people usually have five meals one day, bread and coffee at 6:00 am, bread with bangers and coffee at 12:00 am, lunch at 3:00 pm, coffee and sweets at 7:00 pm, supper at 9:00 pm. Spanish people are off duty from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm every day and most of the shops are closed. This traditional custom results from many factors, but the major factor is the hot weather in north Europe that makes Spanish people like to have activities at night. For them, it is the beginning of the night at 9:00 pm, but not the end of the day. All kinds of celebration activities last all the wee hours and people will not get up until noon after they go home. It is said that this custom have been remained several hundreds of years. The mews to Spain feel a bit hard to adapt to this life rhythm. I often eat things bought from a convenience shop as I often miss the eating time. Fortunately, I get used to the local life time and enjoy the local life. I get up when the sun goes into the narrow street, and then enjoy the sunshine on Jiatailuoniya square.

After visiting many countries, I notice many countries eat from east Iran to west Portugal; they have the similar way to eat bread although they are different nations with different custom. The way they have bread is like the way the Chinese have hot pepper or pickle. Whatever they eat, there is always a piece of bread by hand, nipping a small piece of bread with a little vegetable. In remote mountain area, people usually wrap the remained bread for the next time after one meal. When there is only bread without any other vegetable to eat, Spanish people use the healthy olive oil rather than butter. Thus fat is no easy to live in their body for long. It is really delicious with several drops of olive oil and several pieces of salts on bread.
